About Cable
BigPond Broadband Cable offers a blisteringly fast internet connection, with download speeds up to a staggering 17Mb per second and upload speeds up to 256kbps1.
The same cable that carries the Foxtel Pay TV signal to thousands of Australian homes has masses of bandwidth available for the internet. So if you live anywhere with access to the Telstra/Foxtel cable, you should also have access to BigPond Broadband Cable. And you can still watch Foxtel while you're online, and use the phone or fax.

How you connect
There are two ways to connect to BigPond Broadband Cable - using a wired 1 Port Cable Modem, or the Cable Home Wi-Fi Modem. Both connect to a cable outlet at your premises.

Wired 1 Port Modem
The wired 1 Port Cable Modem is ideal if you have a single desktop or laptop computer (PC or Mac - Mac requires a Professional Installation) and you don't mind a cable between your computer and the Foxtel cable outlet. All you need is a spare USB port for the modem.

Home Wi-Fi Modem

The Cable Home Wi-Fi Modem is a wire-free modem. This means your computer doesn't have a cable trailing to the cable outlet, so you can move around freely within range of your modem (up to 30 metres) and stay connected to Broadband. What's more, you can network your desktop and laptop PC computers and Ethernet-ready printers - perfect for a home office, as well as Playstation®2 online games, so the kids can play online while you're browsing the net. You can network four devices in total, one for each port (BigPond only provides technical support for the first wirelessly connected computer).

Note: The range of your Home Wi-Fi equipment can be affected by the proximity of electromagnetic devices such as TVs, radios and cordless phones, or if any of the following objects lie directly between your computer and the Home Wi-Fi Modem:

• Large metal objects.
• Bodies of water, like fish tanks, above ground pools, etc.
• Several high-density floors or walls.

Your Home Wi-Fi Modem does not affect the speed of your BigPond Cable service, however the connection between the modem and your computer may be slower than a wired connection. Speeds will also vary depending upon the number of computers sharing a connection at any one time.

Uploads represent the maximum upload speed achievable in the Telstra access network. The actual download or upload speed for a customer may be slower and varies due to many factors including plan selected, customer location (including State), method of data transmission (protocol), internet traffic, capacity and popularity of websites and modem and computer hardware and software configuration.
